on honoring God with our bodies

Monday, November 13, 2017

Hello, parang ang dami kong time recently? Hahaha!

I just had a realization about our body being the temple of God and offering it as a living sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to God. I realized we must honour Him through our bodies in all ways possible, and that includes how we take care of our bodies:

  • What do we eat?
  • How do we keep our bodies functioning properly?
  • Are we being good stewards of our bodies by being healthy?
Matthew 15:11 said, "it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person."

This is true. We must be careful of what comes out of our mouths. And we must guard our hearts because what comes out of our mouths is only an overflow of what's inside of it.

But this has been a constant lingering thought. I am also guilty of this. Especially the way I feel right now after quitting gym for more than two months. And constantly binge eating!

Am I honouring God with my body by letting it deteriorate even when I know I am capable of keeping myself healthy?

Some of you might find this hardcore but that's okay. I'm not trying to convince you into leaving your comfort zones and giving up a certain lifestyle.

But if you happen to change your mind and think you are willing to take a step to kickstart your lifestyle change, I just want you to know that I:

  • go to the beach for a swim every week,
  • go for a run at least once a week,
  • am willing to train [a group of] people once a week,
  • am willing to tag you along!
I also created this simple full-body workout that you can do at the comforts of your home, just replace the barbells with bodyweight and those tricep workouts with tricep dips or whatever you feel like doing as long as it engages the designated muscle group. And for your food, just try to eat consciously. I am not an expert, not even close, I am only sharing what works for me. This workout is exhausting, you might want to reduce the reps until you're comfortable and there's nothing wrong with that. There are lots of workouts available on the interwebs also which you can try. Work at your own pace. It's your body. Consistency is key! You can do it! We can do it!

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God — this is your true and proper worship."
